We are in Ireland and it is really the Emerld Isle!

We haven't posted in the past few days because Jim's mother and sister-in-law Kathy have joined us and kept us BUSY! Our plan was to have them here in Ireland at 9:00 AM on Friday morning and we would join them at 4:00 PM. Our flight from Rome to Dublin went off without a hitch except that we were seated in the junior high section. On board were at least 60 Irish 15 year olds who had been in Rome for a school trip and must have never been on a plane before. They threw confetti, shouted, kicked chairs, talked loud and abrasive, were rude to others, and need I say more? After 3 hours we were glad to be rid of them.

We got to our hotel and asked what room Dorothy Lisonbee and Kathy Brown were in. "They haven't checked in yet." Surely this is a joike (gaelic for joke or misspelled). After some phone calls and computer searches we found that they had missed their connection in Chicago by 5 minutes, sent on to London where they were detained nearly 12 hours!in a barracks that had no food or anything. They finally arrived at 7:30 PM on Friday night and they had left Arizona at 1:00 pm on Thursday! It had taken Kathy since March 1st to secure her passport and she only received it the day before they left! Her son Shawn was a trooper and held in there with phone calls and letters and emails and they finally got it! Nevertheless I am sure Kathy was thinking "just turn the plane around and let me go home." But she had a smile on her face when she got here thinking of the Big Gulp that would be waiting for her! Wrong--Kathy was soon to find out that the European's think a suitable soda size is 6 oz bottles!

We ate a late dinner and we got to our rooms and crashed. We had an early excusion to the west of Ireland that started out at 6:00 am so we all slept well and got up early.

Our tour today took us west from Dublin to Galway on train and coach. We made stops in Limerick, went to the Bunratty Castle, lunched in Doolin at a pub, headed for the famous Cliffs of Moher, toured the Burren (which is glacier left rocks from thousands and thousands of years ago), saw Galway Bay and returned by train from Galway. We pulled in to the Dublin train station at 9:00 PM after a VERY long day! It was wonderful and we had a great time.

We had a wonderful day; Kathy is a great international traveler as is Dorothy. Kathy's feet are very swollen and though we know it hurts, when she takes off her shoes her feet looked like stuffed sausages! She is getting used to the European way and goes with the flow like the rest of us (well sort of. She did get 2 cups of ice from the train trolley which only had one bag for the entire train!) But inpite of all the stops and go this way and that way we had a wonderful day of sightseeing and saw lots of the Irish green, green countryside. And did I mention animals?
There are 8 million sheep here, cows of every variety, horses galloping around with their babies, alpacas and more sheep! That was fun for this Arizona girl to see everytime I looked out the window!

IT was a long, great, wonderful day!
