A Change of Plans :(

Today we docked in Dublin again. The weather looked ominous to say the least. Since we are docked quite a distance from the city center Princess arranges for shuttle buses to take us to the city at a charge of $12.00 per person. Being the cheapskates we are and since we had been there last year we decided to bypass the shuttle experience and stay on board. I did manage thought to stop at the little tiny gift shop on the dock to purchase a few items.

Tomorrow we are headed to Belfast again and our shore excursion is the one place that Jim has wanted to see for years; Giant’s Causeway. So excited we were to see this that we purchased our tickets way in advance so as to not miss out on this excursion.

This 4 mile stretch of coastline is a World Heritage Site and is famous for its bizarre columns. The shore is covered with hexagonal shaped pillars that stick up at various heights. Geologists claim that the Causeway was formed by volcanic eruptions more than 60 million years ago.

What really happened though was it was made by a giant Ulster warrior named Finn MacCool who wanted to reach his true love on the Scottish island of Staffa. Then there was a feud between 2 giants and the Causeway was torn up by them fighting and it then caused it to look chaotic.

BUT (and this is important) we were just notified by the Ship’s Captain that we won’t be going anywhere tonight and until noon tomorrow!!!!

Due to a very strong gale in the Irish Sea we are staying put! We are not going to be able to dock in Belfast and we are not going to get to see the Causeway BUT we can take the shuttle back into Dublin for $12 and spend more time there tonight!!!!!! We don’t even get to sail tonight because of the gale warning. We are docked and staying put!

So nothing is happening here. We should leave for Iceland tomorrow afternoon (with an arrival on Wednesday) if all is well but with the weather and the way this whole trip has been we shall see if we even get to stop there! So Jim will have to view the Causeway from his computer when we get home and I am left with 9 British pounds that I was going to use to buy more diet cokes! Print this post

Alais I have not been able to be the faithful reader as I always have been in the past but have FINALLY caught up on the blog. Beautiful pictures and descriptions as always. Love the history, sorry for the smoke filled room that won't go away. Nothing worse. :-( But still fun filled adventures and memories. See you soon. Love ya Vicki
