Wow—another busy day! When we pulled into Vienna last night, there was already a ship here and so we docked right next to it—kind of like double parking. When we leave our ship, we have a gangplank over to the other ship, and we walk across it and through the other ship, and onto the pier. Today, another boat pulled in and so now we are three abreast!

This morning, we had signed up for the city tour. They took us on the bus around the city central, telling us all about their city and then went into the center and dropped us off for an hour on our own. The city center was very much decorated for Christmas and it would have been nice to be there at night to see all the lights.

Then it was back to the ship for lunch and back onto another bus for an afternoon tour of the Schönbrunn Palace. It was designed to be similar to Versailles in France (but it was no where close to the same opulence!) This is where the Royals lived for many centuries and in fact, it is where Marie Antoinette was born and raised, before going to France. There was a small Christmas market there in front of the palace as well.

Then it was back to the ship again for dinner. This evening, we went back on the buses—this time for the main (and the largest) of Vienna’s Christmas markets. It WAS very large and there were lots of people there. There are always lots of food booths there as well and so there were large groups of people hanging around the food. A lot of the Christmas items are mass-produced (probably from China or Russia or something) and some are hand made. You can tell by the price and the quality—even if there isn’t a “made in …” sticker on it. Print this post

Wow that market sure is beautiful at night! I love all the purple lights.

Enjoy your last few days abroad!
