Wednesday October 22 was the day set aside for all of us to travel to Versailles. Steve has never been and Angela wanted to go again as did Jim and I. However Jim woke up pretty sick with a fever and chest congestion and we knew it wouldn't be good for anyone if we traveled. So after speaking with Steve and Angela we decided that we would do our own things that day. They knew how to get to Versailles should they want to go but they ended up not wanting to do anything but shop. So they shopped and I babysat a sick hubby.
Our dinner the night before was an excellent meal at our favorite Mexican food bistro in Paris. We discovered it many years ago and it gets good ratings and we weren't disappointed. Now I know many of you are saying why in the world would you eat Mexican food while in Paris? You have to know that Paris is another melting pot of cultures, people and race. What is real Parisian food anyways? There are Italian, Mexican, Indian, Japanese, Korean, Greek, Chinese, Irish and yes the French restaurants everywhere. Our philosophy is try something and if you like it you go back!!!!
Mexican restaurant has a nice story. Wife is from Connecticut, met Mexican hubby in Paris and stayed and started a Mexican food restaurant. It is very good, very fresh and we have never had a bad meal there.
Wednesday night we went back to our French restaurant where they remembered us and brought us each a glass of raspberry wine. Since we don't drink we passed it to Steve and he finished mine, then he finished Jim's, then the owner came by and took the glasses and said to us "C'est bonne???" We said that we can't go back there now that they are gone since we won't know what to do with the wine. Steve suggested we sit by the window where there are plants and pour the drinks into the plant! We had another great meal of moule's (mussel's) and I had my mouth watering tartiflette! It was all delicious.
Thursday October 23 Jim stayed home and I took them to St. Sulpice and Luxemburg gardens where we enjoyed a couple of hours people watching. From there Jim joined us and we ventured to the Bretonne area which is known for their creperies. We each enjoyed a savory crepe (ham, cheese and egg) and a sweet crepe.
Today after we got Steve and Angela off to London we walked north to find the fabric district of Paris. I can say we saw an area we have never seen before. Before reaching the fabric stores there was store after store of wedding, evening gowns, fancy suits for men, dresses for children, anything the heart or mind could dream up. If you needed a gown for something you would find it there for sure. Then we found the fabric area which sits at the base of Sacre Coeur in Montmartre. Store after store of fabric of all kinds! I found what I was looking for, asked for them to cut it (which they do right where it is lying on a table of all other materials) and you pay for it and go on your merry way.
Lunch of a baguette with tuna, tomato and lettuce and a diet coke ended our shopping excursion. And yes Jim tagged along but wasn't feeling well at all. He even agreed to the tuna baguette which anyone who knows him knows he has to be sick to eat that!
Walking to the metro we stopped in at the Chocolate Museum to view the Notre Dame all out of chocolate and maybe buy a piece or two. Trouble is there was so much to choose from we couldn't decide so we left sans chocolate!
