Boston Tea Party, Paul Revere, Freedom Trail--Not!

We woke up and started our drive south to Boston. We tried to book a hotel in Boston a few days ago but Boston must rank right up there with NYC as having the most expensive hotels around. The one we stayed in when we arrived, The Hilton at Boston Logan, now goes for $400 per night!!!!!!!!!  Most of the hotels were in the $250-$500 per night range. We found a Rodeway Inn on the Internet for 1/4 of the Hilton's price and it provides a shuttle to the airport! Great! It also said it was near a subway/train stop. Great!

Once we arrived we realized why it was so inexpensive......the neighborhood is very scary. But we were desperate and had to have a room and had to have a shuttle to the airport so we took our room, which is very nice though despite the neighborhood.

After looking at the subway system we realized that we would have to take our car back to the rental agency  a day early and then take the subway back to our hotel. It would be better for us to do it today when we could come home afterwards. It would also eliminate the need to take our luggage with us.

All went well; we took the car back to the far away rental agency, walked until we found the train station  that would bring us back to the city and continued on our journey back to our hotel. WELL........the final stop of the subway(that is supposed to be near our hotel) is the last stop on the line which is quite a distance from our hotel. We walked and walked and walked in a not so nice area and are very glad we did it in daylight and not nighttime. The problem is that it took us about 25 minutes of walking in the heat and now we know we don't want to do it again. I also checked on the web that this is a high crime area. Great!!!!

So we are stuck in this hotel, nowhere to eat, nowhere to go and frustrated that we are so cheap that we wouldn't spend $400 a night to stay in the city center!!!!!! We have no choice but to order pizza in to our hotel room, and I guess we will see Paul Revere at another time.

We fly to London tomorrow night at 9:30 PM and arrive in London Thursday morning around 11:00 AM. We will keep you posted. Print this post

You should try to go back to Boston some other time! Right? Did you see enough to THINK you might like to go back?
