Boston to Maine

We made it to Boston after a long day in the air. We stopped in Chicago, transferred to another plane, and then continued on to Boston. We had chosen a hotel right in the airport for convenience and price. Most of the Boston hotels were quite pricey but the Hilton Boston Logan Airport was by far the least expensive.

The information about the hotel says it is within walking distance of the airport. So off we headed in the direction of the hotel. And we walked and walked and walked and walked. We think it was probably 1 1/2 miles to the hotel. Lucky we had moving sidewalks to help us in our quest to reach the hotel, dragging our suitcases behind us as we went.

Once at the hotel we checked in, dropped off our bags and headed out to see what food was available and if we could find free WiFi since the Hilton charges $25 per day for Wifi. Our only option was to walk back to the airport and eat there and use their free WiFi. So back we went (another 1/12 miles) from where we came. Jim says this is getting us ready for London!

I guess they need to warn us! These signs are everywhere!
After a GREAT dinner of New England Clam Chowder and fish and chips (can you get anymore Boston than that except maybe baked beans with it?) we headed back to the hotel again. We couldn't connect to wifi so we just decided to go back to the hotel and rest. Another 1 1/2 miles!

We slept well and called for our pickup from our rental car company. Unfortunately they don't pick up at the airport so we took a cab for $40 to the car rental place. Our very inexpensive car rental has just gone up in price! I just love how our penny pinching ways saves us money! After looking at the map and figuring out the best way out of the city we headed north to Maine.

We arrived in Augusta Maine about an hour ago and the drive here reminded me much of the drive to Flagstaff. Very woodsy and very green. We didn't see any moose along the way; only a dead rodent or two on the road. We did get our first taste of Toll Roads or Turnpikes though. It seems that once on a road after paying the $2.00 toll fee that does not guarantee the right to travel the entire length of that road without paying another toll. So while we stayed on I-95N the entire way from Boston to Maine we paid over $8.00 in toll fees for some sections that were only 10 miles long and in the same state!

We are headed out now to check out the local restaurants and maybe head to the Lobster Festival. The weather is overcast and slightly muggy but not cold by any means! Lobster Festival here we come! Actually Jim is snoring right now so we will most likely be heading out a bit later. Print this post
