So we keep sleeping in and don't know why?! Jim's medicine beeper wakes us up out of a dead sleep at 8:30 AM. What's with that? Maybe it has something to do with the black out curtains. Hmmmmmm maybe we should invest in some for our new home!
Southampton is very much a port town and not the kind of port one would like to sit on the beach and look out over the water. It has tons of shipping containers that actually block our view of the water. Though it is very modern where we are there is a city centre not too far from here that we hope to visit. The part we are staying in is very industrial. Since the weather was drizzly today and very overcast so we decided to play it safe and stay a little close to home.
We started out with a full English breakfast provided by our hotel. For those that don't know what that is it is: eggs (scrambled or over easy), beans (pork and beans), stewed tomato (served whole), fried ham, bangers (sausage links kind of like a bratwurst not the Jimmy Dean kind), toast, jam, fruit, cereal, juice and tea or coffee! Then at the table they have a card with all the calories each item provides and how a good breakfast is important and you can have all this and just walk a little more to compensate! Very funny! I was doing okay until I got a big chunk of bone/gristle in my banger and that did it for me. I will stick with the cereal from now on.
Wherever we go we have to walk. Yesterday was quite scary since the road to the mall is filled with many roundabouts. Nothing is quite as scary as trying to cross an English road where the driving is on the other side of the road, through a roundabout to get to the other side of the road. So much for looking right, then left, then right. I did that and finally just ran to the center where I opened my eyes and then ran to the other side. They don't believe in crossing signs here either. One can kind of figure out when to cross but there is no picture of a little man walking to let you know it is safe. So we are never completely sure if it is safe to cross or not.
For lunch we decided to walk to TGIF! IT was great! Good old American food with free refills to boot.
Dinner was a Swedish feast at the local IKEA. It was actually very inexpensive and very good. It is still very overcast, dark and windy outside and we didn't want to venture too far from home. Hopefully tomorrow will be a sunny day!
