Bora Bora, the sweetheart of French Polynesia

Little Huts over the water

My friend Charlie

Today we anchored at Bora Bora, the sweetheart of the South Pacific. After being in Fiji and Samoa and being a little disappointed in the landscape and scenery we were excited to see if Bora Bora would hold up to its descriptions. It did!

It is surrounded by a huge mountain that changes during the day due to the weather. It can be clouded over, or partially clouded or free from any clouds. The rain started slight in the morning and by 4:00 pm after holding back most of the day, a torrential downpour ended our day in Bora Bora. Little huts suspended over the water were all over the island. Some we open but many were closed down and boarded up.

We went snorkeling on the reef and were happy with the experience.  I wouldn’t say it was the most fish we have seen but we saw some fish and sea creatures that we have never seen before. We also swam with sting rays which were as gentle and graceful as always.

Bora Bora is most definitely a place that Jim and I would return to. It is exactly what we thought we would be and more.

Why were the huts boarded up?
