Well actually it was Auckland, New Zealand--a very modern
and busy downtown right on the harbor—even on a Sunday. We hopped on the ferry, which was located
right next door to our dock, and rode across the harbor to Devonport. It reminded us very much of the San Diego
beaches.
Devonport is a very quaint town with beautiful streets,
parks and trails. We used the Internet in the library for a while and then just
walked the boardwalk down by the beach.
There were lots of families in the park playing on the equipment but not
too many trying to play in the water.
Right on our wharf, what should there be, but a Mexican food
restaurant! Mexicali’s is sort of a
Chipotle knock-off. They had a build
your own burrito, tacos and quesadilla. We
ordered and ate our first Mexican food since April 1. For $10 each we got one
taco, a few chips and a soda.
It was a very sunny day and there were lots of sailboats and
motorboats out in the harbor. Auckland has the most sailboats per capita than
any other place.
As we head to our next port, Suva, Fiji, we know that our
windy, cool days will leave us and we will start to feel the heat and humidity
of the South Pacific.
